The Widgit Symbols (previously known as Rebus Symbols) set consisting of over 10,000 symbols, covering a vocabulary of over 35,000 words, is now available as a Boardmaker Addendum!
Widgit Symbols have been developed to support literacy and to help make information accessible to those struggling with traditional orthography. The Symbols come with core vocabulary of common nouns, verbs and adjectives making it easy to visualise concepts. The simplicity of the line drawings make them ideal for reinforcing the meaning of text.
Designed to improve access to the curriculum, Widgit Symbols cover a range of terms common in primary and secondary education. A large number of symbols are included which support curriculum topics such as maths, science and history helping with comprehension of new and difficult concepts. This allows students who struggle with language to more fully engage in the variety of learning opportunities that are present in the classroom. The full library of symbols is available in both colour and black-and-white. WLS is a perfect companion to Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) to boost literacy and curricular supports.
