The Tellus Smart II is a slim-line, portable, hand-held speech generating device with high quality Australian RealSpeak natural sounding voices. Digitised or recorded voices can also be used.
Messages can be spoken by:
- text-to-speech (spelling or whole words)
- selecting stored phrases
- selecting Picture Communication Symbols (PCS)

Features
The Tellus Smart II is a slim-line, light-weight, hand-held PDA device running Windows Mobile and Mind Express (WinCE) for communication. A sample set of pages are supplied with the unit and pages are easily customised on the unit itself or on your PC, i.e. you can use your PC to program pages and upload or transfer existing Mind Express files using the USB connection. The casing is designed with a minimum of extraneous buttons and ports. The two rubberised buttons below the display can be programmed with a selection of functions, including “page back”, “mute”, volume up or down and “speak the time”.
- MIND EXPRESS
Mind Express is the customisable dynamic display software providing the facility to make pages to suit the individual user. Pages may be designed with symbols from the PCS library. Key label font size and position can be adjusted independently for each cell. Key size can be varied. Pages can be linked to other symbol pages, and to alphabet pages and to pages of whole messages. The software is user friendly and has unique features such as the automatic conjugation of verbs. Both text based and symbol based communication is possible. Word prediction is available, as are some morphology and abbreviation expansions.
- ACCESSING
Direct access is available using a finger or stylus (supplied). The accessing area is determined by the size of the cells designed when making a new display. Fewer cells will produce larger areas. The unit is turned ON and OFF using a small rubberised button at the top above the display. Touch screen settings can be varied using “acceptance time” and “post selection time” milliseconds delays.
Scanning with one or two switches is available. - PORTABILITY
The light weight and slim design of the Tellus Smart II makes it suitable for active, ambulant individuals. The housing is splash-proof. Its crisp and clear 4” high resolution screen provides bright viewing from any angle. An elastic strap is located behind the unit’s casing so that a hand can be slipped through for support. It is recommended, however that the unit be kept in the sturdy case supplied. It is zipped into the unit which has a Velcro closure flap providing access to the display. The carry case has a metal loop to which a belt or lanyard could be fastened.
