Talking Clocks PLUS
by Topologika Software Ltd
A success-story in helping students tell the time on analogue and digital clocks
Many students find telling the time difficult, and showing them how a clock’s hands move or how digital numerals change is the perfect job for a computer. Talking Clocks PLUS does this via four different activities using bright and friendly animated talking clocks:
- Say the Time
- Set the Clock
- Match the Clocks
- and How Much Time?
Each of these can be set at levels appropriate to students’ ages and abilities. Students can have just one “go” or up to three, and can work against time, receiving continuous feedback with real speech. Students can work with any time interval from just the hours to any minute. The Windows version features a choice of primary and adult digital and analogue clock styles, and ready to use curriculum-linked exercise files.
Whether you choose to use it for demonstrations, practice or assessments, the software’s flexible options let you customise settings for individuals or groups.
- Hear the times spoken (clearly and by male or female English voices) and read the times on screen
- Three screen and clock styles are available – two for children, with friendly animated clocks, and one for older students and Adult Basic Education
- Opt for AM, PM or 24-hour times, from just the hours right down to any minute, for example 1 o’clock or 18:36 pm.
Talking Clocks PLUS gives continuous feedback while students THINK about the clocks and questions. They can have just one ‘go’ or up to three, and they can even work against time. In the Windows version, over forty Numeracy Strategy-linked files target the learning by year and term.
Talking Clocks PLUS (Windows) includes the software, a Handbook, 10 worksheets and Pre-set Choices sheet.
“An excellent piece of software. Visually it is superb, it is easy to use and configure, and most importantly, it has been specifically designed to dovetail with the National Numeracy Strategy…. The program was used in conjunction with the topic of the week, and then as a follow-up activity to develop time-telling skills.” – TEEM evaluation.
