If you use IntelliKeys, you’ll love Overlay Maker. That’s because Overlay Maker can transform IntelliKeys into a customised communication device and keyboard tool. With Overlay Maker you can create an overlay to personalise a keyboard for individual preferences, such as size or colour of keys. Or you can program keys for specific functionality such as shortcuts to applications or the internet.

Create overlays for student activities
With Overlay Maker you can create a custom overlay for any activity made with IntelliTools Classroom Suite, IntelliTalk 3, IntelliMathics 3, or IntelliPics Studio 3. These programs will create the keys for your overlay. Use Overlay Maker to edit and print.

Once you’ve created an activity its easy to make several versions of the overlay to meet the needs of different children. You can add or delete keys or view keys as pictures, pictures and text or text alone. Overlays can be as simple as one key or as complex as 120 keys. Keys can be pictures, text, or a combination of both. When used with IntelliTalk 3, keys can be programmed to speak and read back words, phrases, or sentences. When used with IntelliPics Studio 3, keys can launch a series of multi-media images complete with captions, animation, and recorded sound.

Access software or the web
Use Overlay Maker to create overlays to access software programs that use the keyboard commands. Use it, for example, with outlining programs such as Inspiration or to design overlays to access your favourite websites. Again, once you’ve created the model its easy to modify the keys.

Game Maker Galore
Teachers have been using Overlay Maker with great success to make board and card games. Use Overlay Maker files as placeholders for your graphics. Print, laminate, cut and add the Velcro. Once you’ve started creating, the ideas will keep coming.

To Create your Overlay…
DESIGN IT!
Create keys of any size and location. Once you’ve designed your overlay, decide what each key will do by typing in simple keystroke commands. Then name and save your overlay.

PRINT IT!
Print your overlay using a colour or black and white printer with US Legal size paper.

USE IT!
Select the Send Overlay command to send your overlay file to IntelliKeys. Now you’re ready to use your overlay with any program that responds to keyboard input.

Windows 2000 Issues

I purchased my Overlay Maker before the Windows 2000 versions were available, will my version work with Windows 2000?

Your Overlay Maker should continue to work with Windows 2000 provided the following steps have been followed:

1. Your Overlay Maker was working on a computer running Windows 95, 98 or Windows 98 SE.
2. Your copy of Overlay Maker was not reinstalled after installing the upgrade version of Windows 2000

However, if you have to use Overlay Maker with a new machine running Windows 2000, or if your computer required a full installation of Windows 2000 or later (not just an upgrade), then please contact Spectronics Technical Support for advice.

If you intend using this program on a computer running Windows 2000 with an IntelliKeys, please note that you will require a USB IntelliKeys as you will not be able to send overlays to older IntelliKeys hardware such as the IntelliKeys Classic.

Multi-user Options

At this stage, Overlay Maker is not available for purchase as a multi-user licence. It is, however, available at discounted pricing for bulk purchases. Five full copies of the software, manuals and supporting materials are included in the Five Pac purchase listed below. Each user receives a full copy of the software, manuals and supporting materials.
