Insite is for users who are already familiar with using symbols to support text.
How does Insite work?
The interface for Insite sits within your existing content management system (CMS), blog or wiki. It has all the basic formatting functions that you would expect from a content editor, with the added functionality of smart symbolisation.
With the Insite content editor, you have the option to symbolise your whole site or any part of it, or to simply provide a symbol summary of the page.
Why should I use Insite?
Using Insite helps your website to meet or work towards the identified criteria within the Disability Discrimination Act and the resulting Code of Practice from the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
Implementing Insite is easy for CMS managers and content created within the Insite editor can appear on any HTML page.

The Insite content editor has all the basic formatting functions that you would expect from a content editor, with the added functionality of smart symbolisation. For example, when you write the sentence “I drink a drink”, Insite knows which symbol to use and will place the verb ‘man drinking’ symbol over the first ‘drink’, and the noun ‘glass’ symbol over the second use of the word ‘drink’.
In essence, Insite is a new “content editor” plug-in which can replace or work alongside your existing content editor. Maintenance is easy as none of the symbols are stored on your servers, saving you space and bandwidth. And our symbolisation servers are constantly updated, meaning that your website and its contents are never more than two hours from the latest Widgit symbols.

Insite is a client/server solution that enables you to create, edit and display content using Widgit Symbols on your website. It consists of a visual editor that symbolises text as you type and the means to present the symbolised content once it has been created. Insite integrates with your existing Content Management System.
The editor is written in JavaScript and connects to Widgit’s symbolisation server via a secure proxy. You can choose how work is saved from the editor to best fit the needs of your Content Management System (CMS). Once retrieved from your CMS, symbolised content can be displayed with a simple call to the Widgit symbolisation server.
Integrating Insite into your website requires a CMS to store and retrieve symbolised content and some work may be required to integrate it. Full documentation and example files are provided.
For example, we currently offer a module for Drupal 6 that makes integration very simple. You just need to place the module’s files in a directory on the web server, enter some details within Drupal and add a link to a CSS file in the header of the pages that will contain symbols.
Modules and plug-ins for other popular CMSs including SharePoint and Moodle, will be available shortly.
Technical Requirements
Insite requires a server with a database (e.g. PHP/MySQL, ASP.NET/SQL Server).
The Insite content editor requires a modern browser (e.g. Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2, Opera 9, Safari 3 or Google Chrome) with JavaScript enabled.
Insite produces normal HTML, so the pages containing symbolised content do not require JavaScript.
