This 6-CD Functional Words series teaches low-level readers of any age 480 nouns and verbs by linking video clips, photos and text with an easy-to-use management system. Functional Words consists of two programs:
- Functional Nouns – 240 nouns, 3 CDs, 80 words on each CD
- Functional Verbs – 240 verbs, 3 CDs, 80 words on each C)
How It Works
First, select the words presented to each student or choose a standard pre-test approach. The student who takes the pre-test is assigned only the words he or she didn’t know. During the instruction phase, the student is shown a brief video to illustrate the meaning of the vocabulary. A sequence of multiple choice questions follows. If the student answers these correctly, she moves on to the next word on her list. If not, the whole sequence is repeated again until she demonstrates mastery.
The software constantly records student performance, and it’s easy to add new vocabulary to a word list.

Examples of Level 3 are dinner, children and week.
A pre-test option assesses student knowledge and makes assignments. Or you can select the words for each student. Instructional video and multiple-choice questions teach the meaning of each new noun.
