Adapted books allow students to access general science curriculum standards
These three full-colour books form a curriculum for students in grades 5-12 who read at a second grade level or below. These science reader books are linked to the general curriculum in the mandated academic standards’ areas of earth, life and physical science and are adapted for student access with PCS symbols and simplified language.
Benefits of using symbols include:
- Non-readers use the symbols as place markers when lessons are read to them
- Emergent readers use the symbols to help link meaning to text
- Fluent readers use the symbols to help understand specific vocabulary
Each books is laminated and reusable because pages can be written on and erased. You can also print out as many pages as you need from the PDF on the CD-ROM. Use one book for multiple students, for one-on-one, or small group instruction. Books include quizzes embedded throughout each lesson in several formats. Quizzes can also be given by having students point to answers.
The Series includes three covered spiral bound books, an instructor’s guide and a Win/Mac CD containing PDFs of all three books.
