ColorCards Interactive – Everyday Objects is the first in a series of interactive ColorCard CD-ROMs to be published by SEMERC in collaboration with Speechmark. Using a random selection of photographs, this stunning program contains activities which reinforce key skill areas:
- Visual discrimination
- Problem solving
- Concentration and attention
- Semantics/Categorisation
Five activities offer three levels of audio and visual help, and concentrate on key areas:
- Match the picture – This interactive activity includes picture-to-picture matching, audio-to-picture matching, and part-to-whole matching
- What’s it For? – This engaging activity helps to build students’ understanding of function
- Odd One Out – This activity involves grouping and classification
- Add On – This activity helps students sort the cards into functional categories
- How many? – This well-planned activity involves simple counting, and search and count
The activities cover a variety of skills and are a valuable addition to speech pathology sessions. They can be used to teach new skills, develop an emerging ability or to practise and consolidate new learning. Core skills important in language learning or re-learning, include: turn-taking, attending, listening, understanding, building up concepts and improving vocabulary.
