Spectronics 'Satchels On-the-Road' Competition!

Spectronics 'Satchels On-the-Road' Competition Winners!

When we heard from delegates who attended the Inclusive Learning Technologies Conference 2008 that they were finding their sturdy conference satchels really handy for all sorts of things, we thought it might be fun to run a competition to see how far and wide the satchels actually do travel!

We offered a prize of TWO FREE registrations to attend the Inclusive Learning Technologies Conference 2010 and we received over 160 photos by the time the competition closed at the end of December! The satchels travelled to every continent of the globe, were seen in all states of Australia, and in both the North and South Islands of New Zealand.

So of course, it was VERY difficult to make the final decision on just two winners. We were amazed to see the satchel popping up in so many far-flung places, and the obvious effort people made to ensure it was getting out and about! Sincere thanks to ALL of you who made that effort and contributed to the fun of the competition.

In the end, the two winners (pictured above) were Sue Shanley, from Port Lincoln Special School in South Australia, and Christopher Bryg from the Independent Living Centre of Tasmania (in Launceston).

Sue’s note which accompanied her winning entry said:

“Spectronics reached new heights in August when the 2008 conference bag trekked Mount Kilimanjaro (the highest free standing mountain in Africa). The bag reached a height of 4700 metres (15420 feet) before ‘resting’ while the climbers reached the summit of 5895 metres (19340 feet).”

And Chris was selected as our second winner, as he had built a whole Facebook site dedicated to the travels of the Spectronics Satchel, and it regularly “reported in” as it was carried around Tassie, Far North Queensland, Singapore, UK, Ireland and France! Seen above at Michaelmas Cay in Queensland, it wrote:

“Michaelmas Cay is a picturesque reef sand island surrounded by magical coral gardens teeming with an incredible diversity of marine life. The Cay is a protected seabird sanctuary playing host to over 20,000 migratory seabirds. Chris adds his own “style” to the popular tourist destination!”

Join us at the 2010 Conference and take home a brand new satchel! Thank you again to ALL contributors!
