Teach Me to Talk
Because some students have a difficult time learning to speak

Many students have a difficult time learning to speak. Some will need to hear the sounds over and over before they can produce the word. Others may need a reinforcer to engage their interest before they can listen to the word. Some need REAL pictures while others will need augmentative communication devices.
The Teach Me to Talk program includes four activities. The first activity, “Teach Me to Talk” is used as a springboard for the student to learn to speak the word. There are 150 real pictures. When a picture is chosen, it appears on a clear background with musical interludes, movement, written word and spoken word. It culminates by morphing to the corresponding black and white Mayer-Johnson symbol.
The second activity, “Story Time”, takes some of these nouns and puts them in four line poetry. This helps the student hear the word in the midst of a sentence structure. It also works on the student’s auditory discrimination skills.
The third activity, “Puzzle Play”, takes 100 pictures and puts them in puzzles. Choices of 2, 3, 4, 8 or 16 pieces are available.
The fourth activity, “Switch-on-Picts”, is for the student with severe disabilities. It allows them to hit a switch and have the picture appear, along with the options of movement and music. As with all SoftTouch programs, this software works with a mouse, single switch, touch screen, and IntelliKeys USB keyboard. Choice of Macintosh or Windows version.
“Over 5 years ago my son with autism could not speak a word, until we found Teach Me to Talk. Within a very short time my son was saying single words, and labelling things around the house. We credit this program with giving our child the beginning of his voice. Thank you!!” – John and Tricia Polchowski, Fairport, NY, USA
