Astech Mouse Training Software
Mouse Skills Series
Astech Software produces software for children, especially those who are physically disabled and intellectually disabled. As well as the Switch Training Series, they now have a ‘Mouse Skills’ series that teaches disabled and able-bodied children how to use a computer mouse in easy progressive steps.
Who uses Astech Mouse Training Software?
- Pre-school and primary school aged children learning to use a mouse
- Physically disabled and learning disabled children who are learning basic mouse skills
e.g. Downs Syndrome, autism, brain injury, intellectual disabilities, vision impairments, cerebral palsy, spina bifida
- Parents, teachers, teacher aides, occupational therapists, speech-language therapists
What mouse skills are taught?
In the ‘Mouse Skills’ series the child can choose from five different ways to use the mouse in order to get the action to continue:
- Clicking the mouse anywhere on the page
- Rolling the mouse over a stationary object on the page
- Clicking on a stationary object
- Clicking on two stationary objects
- Clicking on a named object from a choice of two
The ‘Mouse Skills’ series contain the same songs and stories etc. used in the ‘Press’ series. Once the mouse skills are learned, children should be able to use the CD-ROMs independently.
Who is the Mouse Skills Series suitable for?
Songs and Stories is particularly suitable for physically and learning disabled children but is also suitable for any pre-school or junior primary school child learning how to use a mouse for the first time.
Fun and Adventures is suitable for middle school children with learning disabilities, short attention spans and a difficulty in physically controlling a mouse.
Mouse access of Astech Switch Training Software
Although the Astech switch training software has been specifically designed for switch-using children, mouse users can also have fun using the switch titles, independently or alongside the switch user. The songs, stories etc. on the CD-ROMs can be accessed and controlled by mouse and switch. The switch user can therefore have fun interacting with friends, family, teachers and therapists.
