Boardmaker 5 Help Sheet - Importing Pictures into a Boardmaker Board
by Jane Farrall, 5/ 2007
These instructions are for importing a picture into a Boardmaker board for use on that board. If you wish to import a picture permanently into your Boardmaker Symbol Finder, for use across a number of boards, please see the Help Sheet Importing pictures into the Boardmaker Symbol Finder.
Copying the Picture into the Clipboard
- Go to the Start Menu, to All Programs, to Accessories and select Microsoft Paint.
- Go to the File menu, choose Open and select the picture that you want to use in Boardmaker.
- Select the dotted rectangle tool and select the area that you want to copy into Boardmaker.

- Go to the Edit Menu and choose Copy. This will copy the area within the rectangle into the Clipboard on your computer.
>>> The above instructions use Microsoft Paint as a program for putting the picture into the Clipboard. There may be other software installed on your computer that you are more familiar with that you would prefer to use e.g. software that came with your digital camera. If you don’t have any programs you are familiar with and Microsoft Paint is not installed on your computer, an easy to use free piece of graphics software is Irfanview, which can be downloaded from www.irfanview.com
Pasting the picture into Boardmaker
- Open Boardmaker. You may have an icon on your desktop for Boardmaker or you can go to the Start Menu, to All Programs, to Mayer Johnson, to Boardmaker.
- Open the board you would like the put the photo onto, or start a new board.
- Right click on the cell that you would like to paste the picture into.

- Select paste.
- The picture will now appear in the cell you selected.

- You can resize the picture by clicking on it and dragging one of the corners inwards onto the picture.
- You can add text by clicking on the font tool “A” on the toolbar, clicking in the cell and then typing.

>>>You can also import a picture into a cell by right clicking on the cell and choosing “Import Picture” from the menu that appears. This works well if the picture is already trimmed to the right size.
