What is Making Words?

Making Words is an activity in which children are individually given some letters and use these letters to make words. During the activity, children make approximately 15 words, beginning with two-letter words and continuing on. Students usually love this – and for many students it is a great way to help them begin to spell novel words on their own without having the whole alphabet in front of them. It therefore scaffolds early spelling and gives many students a lot more confidence.
